Management Committee Roles and Responsibilities

The management committee of Ashley College is made up of volunteers who work together to have a positive impact on the attainment of the pupils in the school. These volunteers are drawn from parents of pupils at the school, teaching and support staff, members of the community and those nominated by the Local Authority

The purpose of the Management Committee in line with government guidance is to provide confident, strategic leadership and to create robust accountability, oversight and assurance for the educational and financial performance of the school. The management committee meets termly, with extra meetings convened if required.

Its three core functions are:-

  1. Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
  2. Holding school leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the performance management of staff; and
  3. Overseeing the financial performance of the school, and making sure its funding is well spent.

The chair of our management committee is Cllr Ketan Sheth

The work of the Full Management Committee is supported by two sub committees which also meet on a termly basis:-

Finance Personnel and Premises Committee

The overall purpose of the committee is to:

  • monitor the schools policies relating to resources issues – finance, personnel, premises and health and safety
  • report to full management committee on the effectiveness of these policies and to recommend changes as appropriate
  • monitor the schools expenditure in line with agreed budget and report back to full management committee
  • act as our pay review committee

In carrying out all its responsibilities the committee must act:

  • in partnership with the headteacher
  • in accordance with statutory requirements
  • in accordance with any general principles set by the full management committee
  • after consultation, as appropriate, with staff, parents, pupils or the local authority and/or other relevant organisations/agencies

The Chair of the Committee is Ms Jo Carroll

 

Curriculum and Progress Committee

The overall purpose of the committee is to:

  • monitor the school’s policies and progress in relation to the curriculum, pupil welfare, behaviour and discipline
  • monitor the school’s success in promoting inclusion
  • report to the full management committee on progress and the effectiveness of these policies and recommend changes as appropriate
  • monitor the progress of the school improvement plan in relation to the curriculum, pupil welfare, behaviour and discipline
  • determine any other matters referred to the committee by the full management committee or other committee, as appropriate

In carrying out all its responsibilities the committee must act:

  • in partnership with the Headteacher;
  • in accordance with statutory requirements;
  • in accordance with any general principles set by the full management committee
  • after consulting (as appropriate) staff, parents, pupils, the Local and relevant organisation/agencies
